Hearth and Hamlet Steam Deck Support and Crash Fixes

Hearth and Hamlet on Steam Deck: UI can sit off-screen and crashes happen. Try the Vulkan launch option. The developer is patching small resolutions.

8/20/2026 Last updated: 8/20/2026

Last verified: August 20, 2026 — Hearth and Hamlet full release on Steam (app 4315040, launched August 19, 2026). Demo numbers are not treated as live data.

Steam Deck is best-effort, not a polished deck-verified sit. Players report UI off the screen, missing controller maps, and random freezes. Phorust is working on a small-resolution patch. Proper Steam Input is some time away. On Linux and Deck, several people got past crashes by picking the Vulkan launch option.

Steam lists Windows and Linux. Deck is a Linux handheld, so Linux notes apply. Mac is not listed.

Pinned known issues also cover UI scaling too high, Linux visual glitches, windowed mode cutting UI, and the enemy tracker jumping after a resolution change (save-and-exit fix). Turn UI scaling down or enable Auto UI Scaling before you refund.

Launch checklist

  1. Add the Vulkan launch option if the game dies when the loading bar fills.
  2. Drop UI scaling until every book corner is clickable. See Research Pages.
  3. Stay in a resolution the UI was built around; then save-and-exit if the raid tracker teleports.
  4. Do not expect a finished gamepad map. Mouse (or trackpad) is the live control scheme. Hover-to-click is on the developer’s priority list for hand pain, not shipped.

If it still will not start, the Bug Reports thread already has “failed to register the windows class” and stuck loading bars on desktop Windows — those are not Deck-specific.

FPS is a separate 60 Hz lock. See Unlock FPS.
